Citrullus lanatus (A.K.A. Watermelon) picking

This is for all those watermelon addicts like me out there!!

Whatever the season may be this lip smacking fruit is available and we love it.It quenches one of thirst and hunger at the same time being very healthy. It is really convenient too...one can take a half with a scoop before the tv or slice/cube it in no time for formal occasions.

Like me most of you would not be shopping for the watermelons yourselves and acting pirates for the refrigerator in the house.I urge everyone to take matters into your own hands so that you are not denied the juicy watermelon you deserve when you need one. Many times perfect lookin watermelons turn out to be dry and bland from the inside. So here is a step by step guide on how to choose watermelons...

1) Look

Check your watermelon for deep scars or bruises.Donot buy watermelons that are cut to sample their inside I repeat Donot buy watermelons cut to sample their insides.Good watermelons must be dark green in colour.

2) Lift

Lift the watermelon and check its weight. It should be quite heavy for its size.Heaviness signifies juiciness.

3) Turn

We all know that watermelons grow on the ground and are exposed to sunlight for ripening. So if one turns a ripe watermelon one will find a creamy yellow ground spot.It is a symbol of ripeness.A white or a greenish spot signifies unripe watermelons.

So next time onwards get your own tested juicy and delicious watermelons. Happy watermeloning!!
